Better World Cameroon is an attempt of a local response to a global crisis and sees cooperatives as a model for community development and a path to create food sovereignty, promote landscape regeneration and rebuild the local economy and values. Through the recent establishment of Bafut Ecovillage, a Permaculture demonstration site, the NGO heals youth apathy and empowers self-determination. Besides battling long term social and economical consequences that have stem from colonialism, it creates sustainable alternatives to systems of growth, that gives voice to local communities and ensure no one is left behind in the global run for economic resilience.
Sonita Mbah studied Integrative EcoSocial Design and is administarator and long-standing activist at Better World Cameroon. She represents the youth wing of NextGEN-Africa and coordinated an Ecovillage project in Bafut, using her versatile formal and informal education in Permalculture and Ecovillage Design.
