GIG Makerspace at re:publica Conference

re:publica is Europe’s largest festival dedicated to improving digital society. Each year, it brings together professionals and enthusiasts from diverse industries across technology, activism, business, media, science, and the arts to explore the impact of digitization on our world. Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) will be curating the Makerspace at re:publica — an open space for learning, collaboration, and experimentation, using new technologies that can address grassroots challenges in the Global South.

In 2026, the Makerspace will highlight community resilience, repair and reuse culture, AI and digital creativity and a lot of Global Collaboration. We’ll showcase exciting tools, host creative and technical workshops, and provide space for dialogue and knowledge exchange. The Makerspace is powered by a passionate, global community ; including makers, educators, technologists, and artists from around the world, especially through the Global Innovation Gathering (GIG) network.

Participants can engage in hands-on activities and workshops, skill-sharing and community-based innovation and explorations in open-source hardware, citizen science, and critical decision-making. We will also build on the success of last year’s Kids Maker Corner and offer a coworking and exhibition area as well as workshop tables.
