Papua Film Festival 2025 for Indigenous Rights

Ein vielfältiges Minifestival mit neuesten Kurzdokumentationen aus Westpapua (Indonesien) startet seine Tournee durch Deutschland und die Niederlande in Berlin.

Die fesselnden Kurzfilme beleuchten aktuelle Entwicklungen in Westpapua, eine von der Weltöffentlichkeit abgeschnittene eine Region in Indonesien, in der zivile und bewaffnete Konflikte den Alltag prägen, Tausende von Binnenvertriebene leben und die Umweltzerstörung durch den Bergbau und die Holzwirtschaft die Lebensgrundlagen der indigenen Bevölkerung bedrohen.

Von aktivistischen Filmemacher*innen vor Ort gedreht, erzählen die Dokumentationen aber auch positive Geschichten von friedlichem Widerstand, dem Einsatz für soziale Gerechtigkeit und dem Kampf gegen Umweltzerstörung.

Bei den Filmvorführungen wird es eine Einführung durch die anwesenden Filmemacher*innen und ein anschließendes Filmgespräch mit offenem Ausklang geben.

A diverse mini festival of fresh short documentaries from inside West Papua (Indonesia) starts its tour around Germany and the Netherlands in Berlin.

Each of these captivating short films sheds light on the conditions and developments in West Papua, a region in Indonesia that lies beyond the international spotlight, where civil and armed conflicts characterize everyday life, where thousands of internally displaced people live, and where the environmental destruction caused by mining and the timber industry threatens the livelihoods of the indigenous population.

Created by local activist filmmakers, they also tell positive stories of peaceful resistance, struggles for social justice, and the fight against environmental destruction.

The screenings will be opended with an introduction to the topic by some of the filmmakers, and close with a discussion and open get-together.
